After completing the "Hike-A-Delic" series in October 2020, my son challenged me to follow up with a series which greatly contrasted.
Something that was, as he put it, "A little darker."
I immediately thought of Morrissey.
I have been a devoted fan since his days as lead singer of The Smiths, when I discovered them in the mid '80's.
Like many, I have always related to his "outsider" point of view, and feelings of loss and rejection.
I believe he is not only a great lyricist, and has the most distinct voice, but has the best song titles.
I have selected one song from each album from his later period - 2004 - 2020.

"I Am Two People" (c) November 2020
This is one of my favorite B-sides from his comeback album in 2004, "You Are The Quarry."
"I am two people, who, one of which you know. The other one you don't know, but you don't want to."
We are more than what we project to the public, or certain people in private.
There are also parts of ourselves that no one sees.
And much like the duality of yin yang, all personalities of an individual need each other to complete the whole person.
Quite often, there are much more than just two.

"In The Future When All's Well" (c) November 2020
From the 2006 release, "Ringleader of the Tormentors."
"Armed with wealth, and, um, the best of health, in the future when all is well."
Sadly, these words are more profound today than they ever were.
There is always a bit of hope somewhere.
But is hoping for something just as futile as throwing money in a wishing well?

"One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell" (c) November 2020
From "Years Of Refusal" in 2009.
"Always be careful when you abuse the one you love. The hour or the day, no one can tell - that one day goodbye will be farewell. And you will never see the one you love again."
Truer words never spoken. Each of us can go at any minute.

"Earth Is The Loneliest Planet" (c) December 2020
From "World Peace Is None Of Your Business" in 2014
"Live with a loneliness no one else knows. "
Please be kind to one other. You never really know what the other carries with them.

This Song Doesn't End When It's Over" (c) December 2020
A bonus track from "Low In High School," 2017
"Oh no, it goes on in your mind."
The worst part of all negative and embarrassing experiences is that they echo throughout your memory, getting louder with each recollection. This the entire reason that I have spent so much time trying to work on myself - to quiet those echoes.

"Once I Saw The River Clean" (c) December 2020
From "I Am Not a Dog On A Chain" in 2020
"Soon the clock will strike for me.
Childish mind anticipates, grown-up mind consummates."
When I was young, I felt like I had more potential, and anticipated what might happen to me when I grew up. As I got older, the opportunities for that potential diminishes, as time winds down.
In many ways, the anticipation did not match the reality, and in other ways, it exceeded it.
